Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect different information depending on which parts of the app you use.

Notes you write. By default, your notes are stored only on your device. We do not receive or store the content of your notes unless you turn on Google Drive backup or use one of the AI features described below.

Google account information (only if you enable Drive backup). If you choose to back up your notes to Google Drive, you sign in with your Google account. We receive your email address and an internal account identifier so we can keep your backed-up notes tied to your account. Your notes are stored in your own Google Drive, not on servers we operate.

Note content sent to Google Gemini (only when you use AI features). When you use the AI-assisted rewrite feature or the "chat with your notes" feature, the relevant note text is sent to Google's Gemini API so it can generate a response. This only happens when you actively use one of these features. That text is handled under Google's own API terms and privacy practices, which we encourage you to review at https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Diagnostic and crash data. We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostic data when the app encounters an error, so we can identify and fix bugs. This data is handled under Google's Firebase privacy terms.

Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used at a general level (such as which features are opened and how often), so we can improve the app over time.

Advertising data. The app displays ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect an advertising identifier and device information to deliver and measure ads. This is handled under Google's AdMob and advertising privacy terms.

Quote widget. If you use the "quote of the day" home screen widget, the app fetches a quote from the public ZenQuotes API. This request does not include any personal information about you.

Private notes. If you lock a note with a PIN or biometric unlock (fingerprint or face), that authentication is handled entirely by your device's operating system. We never receive, see, or store your PIN or biometric data.

Text-to-speech. When you use the read-aloud feature, your device's built-in text-to-speech engine reads the note out loud on-device. Note content is not sent anywhere for this feature.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• Provide the core features of the app, including Drive backup and AI-assisted writing
• Diagnose and fix crashes and bugs
• Understand overall usage patterns so we can improve the app
• Deliver and measure advertising
• Respond to you if you contact us

We do not sell your information.

3. Third-Party Services

AI Notebook relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google Gemini API — powers AI rewrite and chat-with-notes features
• Google Firebase (Authentication, Crashlytics, Analytics) — account handling, crash reporting, usage analytics
• Google Drive — optional note backup, stored in your own account
• Google AdMob — advertising
• ZenQuotes API — quote widget content

4. Data Retention

• Notes stored locally remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
• Notes backed up to Google Drive remain in your Google Drive account until you delete them there or disable backup.
• Crash and diagnostic data collected through Firebase Crashlytics is retained according to Google's standard retention period, generally around 90 days, after which it is deleted from Google's systems.
• Your email and account identifier are retained for as long as you keep Drive backup enabled, or until you request deletion as described below.

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Disable Drive backup at any time in the app's settings. This stops new data from syncing to your Google account.
• Delete your notes at any time from within the app, or by deleting them from your Google Drive directly.
• Request deletion of your account data (your email address and account identifier held in connection with Drive backup) by emailing us at collinsakuoko21@gmail.com. We will process your request and confirm once it's complete.
• Export your data yourself. Since your notes live locally on your device and, if backup is enabled, in your own Google Drive, you can export or back up your notes at any time using the app's PDF export feature or by managing the files directly in your Google Drive. We do not currently offer a separate formal data export process, since you already hold your own copy of your content.
• Ad personalization can generally be limited through your device's ad settings (for example, "Opt out of Ads Personalization" in Android settings), which affects how AdMob uses your advertising identifier.

6. Children's Privacy

AI Notebook does not have a stated minimum age requirement and is not restricted to adult users. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information you'd like removed, please contact us at collinsakuoko21@gmail.com and we will address your request.

7. International Users

AI Notebook is available worldwide. Because we rely on Google's infrastructure (Firebase, Google Drive, Gemini, AdMob), your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including countries where Google operates data centers. Google's own privacy policy describes their data handling practices in more detail.

8. Security

We rely on the security practices of the third-party services described above (Google Firebase, Google Drive, Google AdMob) to protect data in transit and at rest. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
